child care at strathendrick house cottage rental image

Strathendrick House Child Care & Safety Features

Child Proof Safety Plugs

We have provided child-proof safety plugs which should mean that our younger guests can’t stick their fingers into plug sockets and endanger themselves, giving our older guests / parents that extra peace of mind.

Baby Bath

Washing a baby in a sink isn’t an ideal solution and using the bath on its own can be dangerous, so it’s a good idea to have a baby bath to hand.
A baby bath has been provided and is stored under the claw foot bath in the upstairs bathroom for use either in the bath or wherever suits

Eating with your family should be fun, but when on holiday if you’re trying to balance a child on your knee and feed them at the same time, can be somewhat difficult.
Having a highchair for guests’ use should make mealtimes a lot easier. The fitted tray will also mean there is less chance of food spilling on the floor! As the chair folds, it can easily put away when not required.
The highchair is situated at the side of the large fridge in the kitchen. Please wipe it down thoroughly when finished with

When all the luggage is packed in the car, there might not be room for our guests to stow their pushchair too.
A simple pushchair is waiting for you at the property which should make travelling a lot easier, especially if you’re coming by plane or train.
The pushchair will be provided on request from the housekeeper as it is kept in one of the locked storage cupboards

Child Safety Gates

Safety gates at the top of the main stairway and spiral stairs are available and should help to make our property more child-friendly, especially for a curious toddler in unusual surroundings.
Extendable gates should be requested for prior to arrival in order to have them in.
Please inform us of that requirement should you need it

Additional Facilities

Aside from the aforementioned equipment, we also have a piano, table football, trampoline, swing area & separate TV / DVD for kids.

(To control the alarm manually without fob)

When you leave the house, open the alarm box and press a –

a series of beeps indicates you have 45 seconds to leave the house.

The alarm control box is situated in the utility room. The utility room situated behind the kitchen in the small corridor on the right. There are two boxes on the wall of this room adjacent to the utility room sink. The top one is for the alarm. The bottom one sets the heating.

When you enter the house, the alarm will sound. Go straight to the alarm in the utility room and enter the code (xxxx) + enter. This will stop the alarm.

There are two multi fuel stoves in the house, one in the lounge and one in the dining room. They provide a wonderful and economic way to heat the house, as well as providing a lovely heart to both rooms. Coal is provided as is wood and both are at the kitchen glass door entrance. You can find an axe by the fridge to chop kindling. Firelighters are in the cupboard under the sink, or available at the spar in the village.

To start the fires

Open both the disk vent and the stainless steel rod vent as far as possible and light the fire using wood and firelighters. Wait until the wood has caught well and then add coal. Wait for 5 minutes or so until the coal is glowing and then shut the disk vent by turning it clockwise, allowing the fire to be provided with enough air to keep it lit. The stainless steel rod vent is to be used to control the fire.

Do not keep the vents open as the fire will over heat and cause damage to the stove and glass. The thermostat should remain at a max of 300-400 degrees. Temperatures over 500 degrees are dangerous.

At night, add coal, then allow the coal to ignite and only then shut the vents down – the coal will burn slowly overnight. In the morning, open the vents and the fire will spring to life. Rake out the ashes into the container underneath, and using the gloves provided; empty the ashes into the metal bucket outside the kitchen doors.

The heating is oil. This will be delivered automatically by a local supplier using a signalman service. For this reason, do not unplug the white plugs in the kitchen (one on the work surface to the left of the cooker and one under the curved breakfast bar on the left). The heating is automatically timed to come on in the morning and the evening. Please do not adjust these times. The thermostat is situated in the kitchen above the light switches in the corridor going through to the playroom.

There is a Wi Fi facility at the house that is switched on.
